ABOUT PAWS PLAY

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT US
Hi, I’m Jessica—founder of Paws Play.
My journey in dog care began at just 10 years old, walking neighborhood dogs every chance I got. By 21, I was working in professional dog daycare settings, learning the ins and outs of safe group play, structured routines, and the importance of reliable, attentive care. At 24, I opened Paws Play to offer something different: a more thoughtful, personalized approach to dog care that truly feels like a second home.
At Paws Play, we provide structured daycare, enriching adventure outings, and overnight stays in a calm, home-based environment. Our groups are intentionally small, allowing us to give each dog the time, attention, and consistency they deserve.
We take pride in building real relationships—with both dogs and their people—so you can feel confident your pup is not only safe, but genuinely cared for.
Because at Paws Play, it’s more than just dog care.
It’s trust, comfort, and peace of mind.
FAQ's
🐾 Paws Play Q&A: What You Asked, Answered. Buckle up there’s alot of information below!
📍 Where are you located?
We’re in South Tacoma, just five minutes off I-5 near 56th Street. Because we operate from home, we don’t post the address publicly—but you'll receive it upon booking.
⏰ What are your hours?
Daycare is available Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 5:30 PM. If that window doesn’t work for your schedule, ask us about our Dog Taxi service or late pick-up options!
Boarding is available 7 days a week, with limited pick-up/drop-off times on weekends.
📱 What’s the best way to reach you?
Text us! 253-283-3487 I’ll be honest—email is not something we check often, so texting is the fastest way to reach us for anything you need.
🏡 What’s daycare like now that you’re home-based?
The biggest difference is size: smaller space, smaller groups. We limit the number of dogs per day, so reservations are required at least a week in advance (especially for Thursdays!).
That said, the fun has doubled! The pups enjoy time outdoors, nap on the couch while watching TV, and get a homey routine with structure and seasonal events—like Adventure trips and summer pool pawrties!
🧸 What about things my dog might get into around the home?
Great question! Because Paws Play operates from our home, I’m extra mindful about keeping everything tidy and safe for the dogs. We have dedicated dog areas, and I make sure items are put away or up high when the doggos are present. We also have a kitchen gate, so no one is getting into food.
When it comes to cleaning, we only use pet-safe, hypoallergenic products to ensure a healthy environment for everyone. All our treats are grain-free and chicken-free, since Lyla (our own pup!) has allergies and loves to scavenge. We take every step to make sure all dogs are safe, healthy, and well cared for.
📋 What are the Paws Play House requirements?
Same as always! Dogs must be:
-
Spayed/neutered
-
Up to date on vaccines
-
flea prevention
-
Crate trained and socialized
-
Free of disruptive or destructive behaviors
🚫 What counts as disruptive or destructive behavior?
Daycare is designed to be an enriching experience. Disruptive behavior includes excessive demand barking, crate anxiety, or inability to rest calmly.
Destructive behavior includes damaging items, trying to escape crates or gates, or frequent indoor accidents (like marking or stress poops). We strive for a calm, safe group—so dogs need to be able to redirect and settle when asked.
📆 How do I book?
Through your customer portal! You can find the link on our website (opening it in your browser works best). If you need help logging in, text us—we’re happy to send a password reset link.
📸 Will I get updates during services?
I share updates and photos on our social media pages and try to do in person updates when I can—especially at the end of the day. For boarding, I focus on the dogs’ care first, so I may not send daily pup-dates. If you don’t hear anything, take it as a good sign—your pup is doing great!
🚕 Tell me about your dog taxi service?
Yes! We offer a taxi service to help busy or working paw-rents get their pups to daycare. Let us pick up your doggo, give them a fun-filled day, and return them home tired and happy!

🏡 What are my current goals for Paws Play?
We’re always working to make Paws Play the best it can be! Right now, we’re about halfway done with our new Dog Den/Play Palace, and I’m dreaming of giving our play yard a facelift—like adding a patio cover, updating the fence, and creating a more durable play surface.
With our recent move to a home-based setup, we’re focusing on keeping our groups small and personalized, and I’m exploring ways to fine-tune our daycare schedule and taxi times to work even better for everyone. I’m always open to creative ideas—if anyone has skills in landscaping, fencing, or similar, I’d love to chat about how we might collaborate to bring these projects to life!
💛 A Personal Note from Jessica
Paws Play is still very much still a legitimate business—just operating in a more personal way these days. Downsizing was the right move for both my health and the long-term sustainability of the business.
2024 brought some challenges, but I’m so grateful to do work I love and to have the support of the Paws Play family. While I now have a help a couple of days a week, the day-to-day operations and admin tasks are mostly on me. That’s why I’ve put clear boundaries in place—like scheduled closures every few weeks—to rest, recharge, and continue showing up as my best self for your dogs.
Thank you for your understanding, kindness, and continued support. Your trust means the world to me—and to the pack.
With love,
Jessica 🐾
